Update 8/16/25

Dear SOROCO community,

It's been quite a week in South Routt, but, gratefully, I'm pleased to announce that we are on track for an on-time start to the 2025-26 school year this coming Tuesday (8/19/25) morning. 

The Crosho Fire is still affecting some of our families and threatening to expand to affect even more. We'll continue to monitor the situation and will follow directives from incident command as they come in. But as of this moment, we're thankful to be tentatively moving forward with opening schools as planned on Tuesday. 

Our mission to educate these young people and develop career-connected, community-based, and academically prepared students in a safe environment, does not change even as we face challenges as a community. These challenges only strengthen our resolve to accomplish this critical effort. Of course, we recognize some families will need to attend to their property and to evacuation orders. We will be sensitive to this reality while also attending to our primary purpose of fostering learning and growth in our schools. Don't hesitate to connect with your school about your situation as it relates to the fire, and the team will respond with all appropriate understanding, flexibility, and concern. 

I'm so excited that a new school year is upon us. Summer in South Routt is a wonderful time, but the return of our students to our schools is a moment I look forward to all summer. The opportunity you give us to educate these great kids inspires me and motivates the South Routt teachers and staff.

In the coming weeks, I'll have amazing news to release regarding the successes of our students and the results of our teachers’ commitment and hard work. We have such good teachers doing such high-quality work in our schools. Our vision to become the best small school district in Colorado has never been closer to being realized, but of course we have great work yet to accomplish. I believe that we are on the path to accomplish that work. 

In the meantime, let's celebrate together the beginning of another season of learning. The Rams are back in town, and we're ready for them.

Fall Sports practices begin in August. ALL athletes in middle school and high school MUST BE registered (link above), have a valid sports physical and health insurance to play.

For the second year in a row, the South Routt School District has been Accredited with Distinction. Our exceptional scores in CMAS, PSAT, and SAT state testing the District have placed us in the top 9% of the all districts in the state of Colorado. SOROCO Middle School had the highest growth and achievement in the state in English Language Arts, and was in the top 3 middle schools in the state for Math growth and achievement.  High school Science scores were also above the state average while the 8th Grade Science scores were the second highest for all middle schools in the state.

The learning that takes place in all of our classes contributes to our students' success. Our PK-5 classes, Ag, Band, Industrial Arts, and Art classes in addition to tested areas all contribute to developing our SOROCO students.  We are proud of our students, teachers, and staff for once again earning this distinction and we strive to be the best small school district in Colorado!
