South Routt School District is situated in Colorado's beautiful Yampa Valley. The town of Oak Creek is rich with history and is the home of the Vo-Ag and Administration Buildings, high school (grades 9-12) and middle school (grades 6-8). The Elementary school (grades k-5) is located 10 miles south in historic Yampa, Colorado.

The Staff, a collective group of 30+ instructors, work together to provide each student with the best education possible. Class sizes are kept to a minimum (1-20 students) to provide students with the individual attention needed for a quality education.

The District is a member of the Northwest Colorado BOCES. Through this affiliation, the District provides special education specialists, a school psychologist and assistance in physical therapy, occupational therapy and audiology.
School bus service is offered between communities and outlying ranches and includes the Stagecoach area.

The high school offers college prep and vocational courses. Students may elect to take courses with college credit which is transferable at the time of graduation. Students may also access online classes in a variety of subjects including Latin and Astronomy.

Students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities offered to aid them in rounding out their education and preparing them to be good citizens and community members. They may elect to participate in such sports as basketball, football, wrestling and volleyball or join organizations including: FBLA, FHA, FFA, Strand, Science Olympiad, Knowledge Bowl, National Honor Society, Citizens Bee, or Student Council and the Building and District Accountability groups.

Colorado Northwestern Community College offers adult courses three times a year to community members.
